The funeral was possibly the hardest thing I have ever gone through in my life. But the outpouring of love from the community made it a little easier. There must have been over a thousand people at the church for the services and seeing so many people come together gives me hope that Nathan’s love will live on in so many people’s hearts. I too hope that finally someone might find it within their heart to come forward with information about the shooting.

The loss of someone so young is never an easy thing to accept, but it is even harder when it was the result of senseless violence that lead to 2 innocent young mens lives being taken. Nathan Buie, Jr. is one of those rare people that would shine, he was someone very special to a lot of people. I do not know one single person who ever met Nathan and didn’t like him; most loved him. One of the people that spoke at the funeral made a wonderful comment about how Nathan was his son’s best friend, but because of how Nathan was, he was a lot of people’s best friends. Truer words couldn’t have been spoken. Nathan will be loved and missed but remembered fondly by those who knew him. I send all my strength and love to his family who are going through what no family should have to go through. I leave you with a poem Nathan wrote. May he rest in peace.

“In My Walk of Life”
by: Nathan Buie, Jr.

In my walk of life,
I’ve always followed God
By going to church
And doing what’s right at all odds.

As a young boy, my father use to say,
“Raise a child up in the way they should go.”
I honestly believe that saying to be so

My parents raised me to be a good,
strong, responsible, young man,
A man who’d not afraid to take
And stand in what he believes in.

I’ve never been one to relinquish and let go
Because I Dream it, Do it, and
Fight for it to make it so.

In my life I’ve always wanted to go far
Hey maybe that’s why I’m a track star.

In my walk of life,
I’ve always had people look up to me,
For I am someone who doesn’t mind being himself,
and that’s the key.

When I look at myself, I see the future,
A leader of my generation,
I have to make a difference,
I want to be a maker of a lucrative creation.

After all is said and done,
I just want to be a legacy,
One whose walk of life is Legendary.
