Last week I found myself practically dreading work a couple days and that’s the point when I realized that I had become somewhat jaded. In particular, jaded with the mass public. Most people are pleasant enough and will at least say hello as they rush on by, but as you might guess there have a few bad apples. I’m talking about the people who are cynical, distrusting, selfish & in some cases extremely delusional. The people who pretend I don’t even exist. And worse than any others, the people who intently go out of their way to be outrageously cruel. I realize some of this is to be expected, it comes with the job. But in reality I am just doing my job and it would be nice if others took that into consideration as they pass on by. Never on my worst day would I go out of my way to insult someone just because I was too busy to talk to them. Nor would I blindly ignore the sales associate who asks me if I need help with anything, they are after all just doing their job in that same respect.

As you might imagine jaded does not make for a good fundraiser because we all thrive on the fact that it’s the human condition to help. The key is finding which humans are in the condition to help on that particular day and to forget the rest. (Much much easier said than done by the way.) And so my goal this week has been to maintain a positive attitude and try not to judge the ‘bad apples’ too harshly. After all even I have been on the opposite side – having a bad, cynical or just downright miserable day – and who knows how my attitude effected the day of someone who probably didn’t deserve it.

P.S. The job situation is looking good. My numbers have been steady and I feel like I have my enthusiasm back this week! Oh, and here’s a picture of Chicago for fun. It’s from last month when my friends visited and we ventured over to the Shedd Aquarium. :) Hope you’re enjoying your December holiday of preference. ;)
