When I first moved up here I packed all my things in a rushed 2 day period bringing with me only the things I thought I’d need. Fast forward 6 months and I’m re-packing everything, taking my sweet time and BOY do I have a lot of useless crap! Packing this time kinda reminds me of that 1 month mark on my trip to Europe where I decided to get rid of a few things to lighten my load. I unfortunately picked up the pack rat gene from my mother, but thankfully got my father’s obsessive organizer gene as well. As you could imagine they don’t cooperate very much. But the organizer is starting to win out and I’m slowly learning how liberating it is to actually get rid of all the things I don’t need.

Anyway, after the last week or so of semi-organizing as I pack I have learned some lessons. Those lessons inspired me to write a list of rules for not only packing, but how I want things in my life to be. If something I own doesn’t do one of these things, then I probably don’t need it around.

My Environment Should…

* Smell good *
* Be organized *
* Not be cluttered *
* Inspire creativity *
* Be practical & useful *
* Put a smile on my face *
* Feel inviting & comfortable *
* Say something personal about me *
