My great grandfather passed away Saturday morning at the age of 85. Today was the funeral and I met relatives I’ve not met since I was 2. A sad family reunion for sure. We were all shocked since he seemed to be in good health and spirits, but then again sometimes with him it was hard to tell because he could be very stubborn. Thankfully he died peacefully sitting in his lawn chair in the garage and that is some comfort to us. I worry for my great grandma because she’s the one found him that morning and needless to say she’s been quite upset the past few days and she’s not in the best of health to begin with. She and my great grandpa had been married for 64 years! They were in Phoenix, AZ while he was serving in the Air Force when they got married and what I didn’t know, but learned recently was that they got married on Memorial Day. He always talked about how he’d have liked to go back to Phoenix because he hated the winter here so much and this past winter he joked with my brother (who now lives in Phoenix) that he was going to come rent out his place and stay with him. I will miss him very much.
